Requesting a visa or going on a diplomatic mission is no longer permitted for Saudi Arabian women without the presence of a male companion. The news was reported by daily Saudi Gazette, which cited the case of female Saudi journalists to whom entry at the Diplomatic Quarter was denied despite their invitation to take part in a news conference organised by one of the embassies.

''Access to embassies is denied to Saudi women if they are not accompanied by their male guardians,'' was the peremptory comment of a security guard at the entrance of the complex, according to a female reporter of Saudi Gazzete who was confronted by the new regulation. Only the sending of diplomatic cars - to transport the journalists who remained outside - has temporarily resolved the situation. Requests by the newspaper to the Ministry of Interior for explanations regarding the new regulation have not yet been announced. (ANSAmed).
