விஹெச்பி தலைவரான வேதாந்தம், வேதாந்தி என்பவர் விஹெச்பி தலைவர் அல்ல என்றும், அவரது கருத்துக்கள் அவரது சொந்த கருத்துக்கள் என்றும், அவரது கருத்துக்களுக்கும் விஹெச்பிக்கும் எந்த தொடர்பும் இல்லை என்றும் விளக்கியுள்ளார்.

As the DMK threatened a "fitting response" to the reported "fatwa" by former MP Ram Vilas Vedanti against its patriarch M Karunanidhi over his remarks on Lord Ram, the VHP on Saturday sought to distance itself from the issue, saying the views expressed by Vedanti were his own.

"We have come to know through the statement of DMK leader and Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy that Vedanti has made some provocative remarks in Ayodhya. I wish to clarify that he is not a VHP member. The views expressed by him are his own and the VHP has never subscribed to such views," VHP Working President S Vedantam said.

The VHP's main concern was only to reinforce Hindu dharma and it had never indulged in personal attacks or supported inflammatory speeches, he said in a statement in Chennai.

Reiterating that the VHP was not against the Sethusamudram project, he said the outfit only urged that the project be implemented without demolishing the Ram Sethu and hurting the sentiments of Hindus.

Vedantam also urged Veerasamy to withdraw his "threatening statement made without understanding the VHP's stand on the issue."
