Arunachal govt denies ULFA-Cong nexus

Itanagar, Sept 26: Arunachal Pradesh government on Tuesday denied allegations of a nexus between the ULFA and the state Congress leaders and said it was ready to face any investigation in this regard.

None of the ministers or Congress leaders in Arunachal Pradesh were in any way involved with any banned organisation, Water Resources Minister and government spokesman Tako Dabi said while reacting to the allegation made by a section of media and the BJP.

Some leaders with vested interest were exploiting the news item to settle political scores against the Congress government led by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, he told reporters.

According to reports, Prabal Neog, commander of ULFA's 28th battalion and instrumental in the massacre of Hindi speaking people in Assam, who was arrested at Tezpur on September 17, had named three Arunachal ministers extending him logistic support, during interrogation.
Neog's family was living in Itanagar for the last 10 months.

Dabi said the government would launch an investigation to find out those behind the allegations and the move to sabotage the image of the government.

Asked when a news channel claimed that it had proof of a minister extending support to Neog, Dabi said the government was not aware of it.

Cadres of insurgents groups like ULFA and NSCN took shelter in jungles bordering Assam and Nagaland and threatened leaders to toe their lines, he said, adding such incidents had been brought to the notice of the Union Home Ministry by the state government.
