அரபு பிரதேசத்தில் 2005இல் மட்டும் சுமார் 67000 புதிய நோயாளிகள் உருவாகியிருக்கிறார்கள். இதே வருடத்தில் ஐரோப்பா முழுவதும் 22000 புதிய எய்ட்ஸ் நோயாளிகளே உருவாகியிருக்கிறார்கள். 2005 இல் ஐரோப்பாவில் 8000 பேர்கள்தான் எய்ட்ஸ் காரணமாக இறந்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால், அரபு பிரதேசத்தில் 28000 பேர்கள் எய்ட்ஸினால் இறந்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
இவ்வாறு பரவுவதற்கும், இதனால் சாவதற்கும் காரணம் பல. முதலாவது அரபு நாடுகள் இந்த வியாதி பற்றிய விஷயம் வெளிவந்ததும், தங்கள் நாடு ஏதோ உலக மகா புனித நாடு போல காட்டிக்கொண்டு இங்கே யாருக்குமே எய்ட்ஸ் இல்லை என்பது போல மூடி மறைத்தது. இதனால், செய்யவேண்டிய மருத்துவ பணிகளை செய்யாமல், எங்களுக்கு இது பிரச்னையே இல்லை என்பது போல நடந்துகொண்டதால், எய்ட்ஸ் உள்ளேயே பரவி இன்று நாறுகிறது.
தாமதமானாலும் பிறகு ஒப்புக்கொண்டு எய்ட்ஸினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டோ ருக்கு சிகிச்சையை அளிக்க ஆரம்பித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
அது பலன் தரும் என்றும், அது போன்ற வீண் டம்பத்தில் உண்மையான மருத்துவ பிரச்னைகளுக்கு ஒழுக்கரீதியான சாயம் பூசி பின்னால் அவதிப்படாமல், இதிலிருந்து பாடம் கற்றுக்கொள்வார்கள் என்றும் விரும்புவோம்.

ஒழுக்க ரீதியான எந்த மதிப்பீடுகளையும் நான் செய்ய தயாரில்லை.. ஆனால், ஒழுக்க மதிப்பீடுகளில் மாட்டிக்கொண்டு மருத்துவ பிரசினைகளை சரியாக அணுகாமல் இருப்பது ஆபத்தானது
This is not a surprise news to me. Saudi men make sex tour to Bharain, Dubai and to Western countries. Recently they have started to go to Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia for sex.
Now they go back to those countries for treatment too.

HIV-Aids in Arab world up 300pc

A staggering 300 per cent increase in HIV/Aids cases was registered in the Arab world in the past three years, it was revealed yesterday.
This is against a 20 per cent annual rate of increase reported in the US, Japan and Europe, said a United Nations official.
Bahrain has now launched a major campaign to involve religious leaders in its efforts to combat the spread of HIV/Aids.
More than 40 religious leaders, representing both sects of Islam as well as Christianity, attended a round table discussion yesterday on religious perspective in combating HIV/Aids.
Among them were female religious leaders. The meeting was called by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the UN House, Hoora.
More than 39 million individuals are living with HIV throughout the world, with almost 3m deaths last year alone, said UN resident co-ordinator and UNDP resident representative Sayed Aqa.
"This ranks the disease as one of the worst infectious diseases of modern history," he noted.
"The Arab region is not an exception, as there are more than 460,000 people living with HIV/Aids in the region, with 36,000 deaths last year in the Arab region alone."
UNDP developmental programme analyst and HIV/Aids programme co-ordinator Ali Salman Saleh said the rate of increase in the spread of the disease in the Arab world was 300pc in the past three years.
"This is against an annual rate of increase of 20pc in the US, Japan, Europe and Australia," he told the GDN.
"This is a very dangerous trend.
"The staggering rate of increase is mainly due to factors like ignorance, lack of awareness, denial and misinterpretation of facts.
"In Bahrain, the first Aids case was reported in 1986, and since then there were 290 cases."
Mr Salman said it was decided to hold two separate workshops for male and female religious leaders next month.
"The workshops will be titled Religions in Service of Humanity," he added.
"Experts from UN Programme on HIV/Aids and the Regional Programme on Aids in Arab states will train the religious representatives on how to undertake an effective campaign on a religious perspective."
According to Mr Aqa, the challenge facing Bahrain, where the number of infected people is still relatively small, is maintaining the prevalence at a relatively low rate, and prevent the wide spread of HIV/Aids among the population.
"This is where we believe religious leaders can and should play an active role," he noted.
"We strongly believe in partnership of religious leaders and scholars with the UN, the government, the non-governmental organisations and the private sector companies to combat HIV/Aids in Bahrain."
Views and statements of religious scholars are highly respected by the people in the society, especially the youths, said Mr Aqa.
"This is why their support is critical to make sure people are rightly guided," he added.
"Humanity is blessed by Allah with Holy books and guidance. The main purpose is to save humanity. Any efforts to combat the spread of HIV/Aids may be rewarded as Sadaqa Jariyah (Continuous Charity)."
The UNDP, said Mr Aqa, was looking at religious figures as partners in human development in line with national needs, traditions and beliefs.
"In order for us to advance in different fronts of human development, we should work together in this particular cause, as well as in the broader social and economic development of Bahrain," he added.
"Our religions require us to unite and work together to serve the people of Bahrain better."
