Two protestors die as Jammu simmers in anger

JAMMU, July 7: Anger spiraled in the Jammu region, with violent protests rocking various parts of the region for the seventh day today as two young protestors who were injured in the ongoing stir against reversion of land transfer to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, succumbed to their injuries today.
Ramesh Chander, a resident of Pir Mitha, in the heart of Old Jammu city died this morning after he fell off a roof yesterday while being chased by policemen during a protest demonstration against the land transfer revocation.
Another protestor, Manjeet Singh who was seriously injured in Bhaderwah when a grenade was lobbed at a protest rally a few days ago, also died at the Government Medical College Hospital in the city late last evening.
The BJP which is spearheading the agitation in Jammu on the issue of revocation of land transfer order to SASB, today said that the “disgraceful exit of the Congress-led minority government” was not something to celebrate about.
“How could we celebrate the exit of the Azad-led undemocratic and unconstitutional government when the people of Jammu province are mourning the deaths of innocent brethren,” he said, charging they had been killed by the “insensitive and barbarous” Congress-led government to appease the Kashmir-based fundamentalists and pro-Pakistan elements.
Mr Ashok Khajuria, president, BJP, J&K said the people would not accept anything short of the transfer of the 800 kanals of land back to the Shrine Board.
“With Azad's resignation, the BJP and the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti have achieved only one of the three goals,” said the BJP state chief, declaring the agitation would go on till the people of Jammu achieved the remaining two goals ~ restoration of the shrine board to its pristine glory and removal of state Governor Mr N N Vohra, who he charged had subverted the constitution of the Shrine Board and submitted before anti-India forces in Kashmir by asking the state government to take back the said land without taking members of the Shrine Board into confidence. n SNS
