Al-Qaeda in Algeria uses new members as human shields

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, previously known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) has used its new members as human shields against the Algerian army, according to sources close to a military operation being carried out in Yakourene forest in the wilaya (province) of Tizi Ouzou (100 km east of Algiers).

Terror groups are used to make children and women human shields as it was the case of an “important” military operation in Babour Mountains between Setif and Jijel (east of Algiers) where a brigade was dismantled and "terror lords" surrendered, said a well-informed source.

The national leader of Al-Qaeda Droudkal has adopted this strategy in Yakourene operation as most of his accolytes besieged now by the army in the area are newly recruited members.

According to well-informed sources, an “important number of terrorists” were arrested. Most of them have recently joined the armed groups.

Investigators focus on terror support networks and terrorist organisation plans especially suicide attacks.

“Yakourene operation will continue untill the eradication of terrorism in the region”, said the Algerian home affairs minister Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni.

This statement reflects that there is information about the identity of the surrounded group.

Usually, terrorist organisations carry out attacks to make noise and to “revenge” when a group of terrorists are surrounded.

However, no “significant” attack has been recorded in the region since Yakourene operation started.

In this connection, the most suitable thesis say some of the terrorists on which the armed forces grip is tightened at Yakourene forests are commanders in Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
