Green message as thousands head to Hindu festival
30 August 2007
MORE than 50,000 people will converge on the tiny village of Aldenham on Sunday for the largest Hindu festival outside India.
The annual Krishna Festival at Bhaktivedanta Manor will have live stage shows, colourful costumes, music, meditation, exotic food and market stalls.
This year festival organisers want to highlight to visitors the need to be aware of their Green responsibilities.
Sita Rama Das, a spokesman for the temple's environmental team, said: "We will be serving 65,000 people with a sumptuous free vegetarian meal in compostable cups and plates, offering advice on recycling and reusing."
Temple president Gauri Das said: "The festival is the showpiece of our devotion to Lord Krishna and that of 1,500 volunteers who have helped to make this festival such a success year after year. I am sure all our pilgrims and visitors who come will be uplifted spiritually."
The festival starts at midday and ends at 10pm.
