IBM develops speech recognition software for Hindi
This is potentially a good news for Hindi speaking computer users in India. IBM’s India Research Laboratory has revealed that they have developed a speech recognition software for Hindi.
Daniel Dias, director of the lab at IBM said that they see massive potential for this technology in both commercial and social aspects.
Hindi language is based on the Devnagri script which is quite complicated when compared to the English language.
They are not alone working on making it easier for computer users to type in regional languages. HP has developed a touch-pad which they call a gesture pad to make it easier to handle Hindi.
IBM’s technology in comparison could be used by a larger segment of the society as it is based on speech and does not require the user to be comfortable with the keyboard.
