Yoga master hosts class for children

One of the world's top yoga instructors is coming to Northern Ireland to work with children with cancer. Internationally renowned yoga master David Sye will host one of his special Yogabeats sessions for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund For Children this Friday.
The class is designed to give respite to the parents of children suffering from cancer.
Yogabeats is a unique mix of yoga styles and modern music designed to accommodate all levels of fitness and ability. Instead of using fixed postures, David's technique uses "micro-moves" - continuous movements which do not lock off the muscles or disrupt the blood flow, and increase flexibility.
The technique was developed after David observed that children were unable to hold the fixed static postures of traditional yoga.
He said: "Yogabeats engages all of your physical senses and provides a natural high and feelings of joy in the body.
"It creates tremendous vitality, balance and flexibility regardless of size, age or experience.
"It gently releases tension and heals the body without the practitioner/student knowing how it's done, simply because of the spontaneous movements."
David has used his Yogabeats technique with soldiers in Bosnia, disadvantaged children, prisoners and conflict resolution projects in Israel and Palestine, and teaching inner-city children in Brixton, London, as part of a Home Office project to help reduce youth crime.
David is also due to hold a series of workshops at Fitness First in Connswater on Saturday.
