Yoga to be in Kerala school curriculum

Thiruvananthapuram, June 29: Yoga will soon be made a part of school curriculum in Kerala, Education Minister M.A. Baby informed the state assembly Friday.

"Taking into consideration the widely accepted advantages of yoga and its effect on individuals, the education department would soon see that this is made part of the school curriculum in the state," he said.

The minister made the announcement when ruling front legislator V.N. Vasavan raised the issue.

Introduction of yoga in schools has already been recommended by a parliamentary committee headed by Janardhan Dwivedi which also had Rahul Gandhi and Brinda Karat as members, Vasavan told IANS.

"Moreover, the National Council of Educational Research and Training has recommended it. The Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development also supports the proposal," he said.

Vasavan said the Indian Medical Council has asked all medical colleges to start a holistic ward.
