பிரிட்டனின் முதல் முஸ்லீம் எம்பி முகம்மது சர்வார் பதவி விலகினார்.


சில வருடங்களுக்கு முன்னர் பிரிட்டனில் சில இனவெறி கொலைகாரர்கள் இம்ரான் சாஹிது, ஜீஸன் ஷாகிது, முகம்மது பெய்ஸல் முச்டாக் ஆகியோர் கிரிஸ் டோனால்ட் என்ற சிறுவனை கடத்தி கொன்றார்கள். அதன் பின்னர் அவர்கள் தப்பி பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு சென்றுவிட்டனர்.

முகம்மது சர்வார் பாகிஸ்தான் அரசாங்கத்தை நெருங்கி ராணுவத்தினர் மூலம் அவர்களை பிடித்து மீண்டும் பிரிட்டனுக்கு கொண்டுவந்து தண்டனை பெற வழி செய்தார்.

அந்த கும்பலைச் சார்ந்தவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து இவருக்கு மிரட்டல் விட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். இவரது பையனையும் கிரிஸ் டோனால்டுக்கு செய்தது போல செய்வோம் என்று மிரட்டலில் அதிர்ந்து இவர் தன் பதவியை விட்டு விலகிவிட விரும்புகிறார்.

Labour MP Mohammad Sarwar will not be standing again in Glasgow Central

Britain's first Muslim MP is being hounded out of office by death threats.
Labour MP Mohammad Sarwar says he is stepping down after his family received the death threats linked to a gang he helped convict for a racist murder.

The 54-year-old has told party activists he will not be contesting his Glasgow Central seat at the next election.

He says the gang is linked to racist murderers Imran Shahid, Zeeshan Shahid and Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq.

The three were jailed for life last year for their part in the killing of Glasgow teenager Kriss Donald, who was kidnapped, tortured and killed in Glasgow in 2004.

Mr Sarwar was instrumental in arranging the extradition of the trio after they fled to Pakistan.

The MP said: "Life is not the same, to be honest with you, since I brought them back. I was subjected to threats.

"I was told they wanted to punish my family and make a horrible example of my son - they would do to him what they did to Kriss Donald.

"I received threats to my life, to murder my sons, to murder my grandchildren."

Mr Sarwar used his high-level connections in Pakistan to arrange the extradition of the Shahids and Mushtaq.

They fled to Pakistan shortly after Kriss's murder in February 2004, and were brought back after 18 months of careful negotiations between Mr Sarwar, the British and Pakistani authorities.

The killers were main players in a violent gang that terrorised people in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow.

Mr Sarwar told the Daily Record that he knew what the consequences were in helping to bring the trio back to justice. But he maintained "it was the right thing to do".

The multi-millionaire was first elected as MP for Glasgow Govan in 1997. He was Britain's first Muslim MP and in 2001 he was re-elected with an increased majority.

His eldest son Athif, 28, is awaiting sentence after being convicted for an £840,000 money laundering scam in April. Mr Sarwar said his decision to step down had nothing to do with his son's conviction, which he is appealing against.
