New Hindu temple will simulcast ceremonies online

June 22, 2007 - A new Hindu temple opened in suburban Grayslake Friday. But this has a modern twist. It is believed to be the first Hindu temple that plans to broadcast ceremonies and temple festivities on its website.

This will be a historic weekend for the members of the Hindu faith in the north suburbs with the grand opening of a new temple near Grayslake.
"You come from India, ok? You have your own custom and functions, parties, you need a place that you can go and tradition," said Anil Aggarwal, temple member.
Envisioned for 30 years and finally constructed after three, the temple is officially known as Hindu Mandir of Lake County, the work of the Indian Cultural Association.
"It means a dream come true. A place where we can have religious ceremonies, spiritual discourses, cultural activities, education for our kids," said Hakumat Sharoff, temple member.
The second floor prayer hall features a setting of icons from India. The figures are hand carved from solid pieces of marble.
With the nearest place of worship 18 miles away, this temple is expected to serve 3,500 families living in Lake, McHenry and northern Cook County along with southern Wisconsin.
"It means that where I can come myself, other people around, it's a community place. Also worship place that I can meditate and get my stress out of me," said Asha Gandhi, temple member.
For the kids the temple has gone high-tech.
"A lot of technology implemented here with the TVs, with the internet, with the computers, with the sound and everything, playgrounds out there, surveillance--it will be touching them in one way or the other," said Anup Manchanva, temple member.
The grand opening continues through Sunday.
Four million dollars was raised to build the temple.
