Stoking the fire: a Kundalini yoga practice returns to midcoast
By Lauren Cherry
CAMDEN (June 6): Lauren Cherry announces the re-opening of her Kundalini yoga practice in midcoast Maine.
Ms. Cherry, a certified Kundalini yoga teacher and long time practitioner of Kundalini Yoga in New York City, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is holding classes in Camden starting June 20. Classes are being held Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. at the Open Door Yoga Center on Molyneux Road, Camden. Private classes are also available.
Classes are designed for all levels of fitness. No previous experience in yoga is required for you to begin to achieve results with your very first class. In addition, Ms. Cherry tailors classes to address different emotions and challenges, including fear, anger, anxiety, self-esteem and negativity. Classes work to open your heart, free creativity, build courage, and motivate you to be YOU.
'Kundalini' (the creative potential of man) yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, breathing, mantra, live music and meditation, which teach you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation. It works to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, and expand lung capacity to deeply relax you. And, by harmonizing the body's energy centers or chakras, there is a change in consciousness. Balancing body and mind enables you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul.
A key component in Kundalini yoga is the "Breath of Fire," that is, the rapid, rhythmic breathing that often fuels the postures. "It is a cleansing form of breath," says, Cherry, "reminiscent of a locomotive. Kundalini yoga is a powerful tool to alleviate fatigue, depression, and stress," says Cherry.
