Body of kidnapped head constable found in J&K
Srinagar, June 26: The body of the head constable of Jammu and Kashmir police who was kidnapped from his house by militants on Monday was recovered from Pulwama district on Tuesday, officials said.
The body of Farooq Ahmed Tantray, a resident of Narbug falling under Awantipora police station, was recovered from Tral area of the district, they said.
Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit claimed responsibility for the abduction and subsequent killing of the head constable, he said.
A spokesman of the militant outfit Junaidul Islam said in a statement that Tantray was kidnapped and killed for his alleged involvement in getting three Hizb cadres killed.
Meanwhile, an unidentified militant was shot dead by security forces in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, a defence spokesman said.
Acting on a tip-off, security personnel of 23 Punjab Regiment and Two Para sealed Gamaru village in the district, 55 kms from Srinagar, and shot dead the militant this morning, he said.
One AK 47 rifle, four magazines and 58 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militant, whose identity and group affiliation was being ascertained, he said.
