(SomaliNet) Five civilians died and ten others were wounded when a hand grenade bomb exploded inside a video show in the Somalia’s southwest city of Baidoa overnight. Baidoa which is now the base of the transitional federal parliament, was relatively calm for the past months.
An unknown man hurled a hand grenade bomb into a place where many people were watching a film around 9:40pm local time.
“It was terrible explosion which killed some of my friends... I was so lucky not be hurt in the blas. It seemed like a bomb thrown from the outside,” Madey Omar, one of the viewers told Somalinet this morning.
Soon after the explosion, the security in Baidoa reached the scene and sealed off the area to arrest the suspect.
No word yet from the government’s authority in Baidoa. The wounded were taken to the city’s hospital. Baidoa which is 240km away of the capital Mogadishu is based by large number of Ethiopian forces.
The grenade attack was the latest in a wave of violence, which also included a major attack on Ethiopian troops in Mogadishu.
The interim government top officials condemned the attacks on the Ethiopian bases as terror acts aimed to undermine the peace and stability in the country.
Early May, a similar bomb attack on cinema place in Bardhere town of Gedo region in southern Somalia killed six and wounded dozen others.
