VISAKHAPATNAM: The police has seized certain documents that have revealed that the Students' Islamic Movement of India (Simi) has joined hands with the outlawed CPI (Maoists) in order to expand its base in the semi-agency areas adjacent to Dandakaranya and Nallamala regions.
Following the recent acts of violence by Maoists along the Andhra-Orissa border and also Andhra-Chhattisgarh border, special police parties have been conducting extensive search operations for the last few weeks in Visakhapatnam agency.
"To our surprise, we came to know about the understanding between Simi and Maoists after seizing some important documents," said a police official.
The tie-up between the two seems to be in semi-agency areas like Narsipatnam, Chodavaram and G Madugula of Visakhapatnam agency and similarly, adjacent tosemi-agency areas in Khammam and East Godavari districts.
According to the document, Simi has already opened some preaching centres in the adjoining villages of Gangaraju Madugula, Chodavaram and Narsipatnam of Visakhapatnam district.
In return for the favour, Simi is reportedly promised the Maoists that it would support their cause in building the 'Red Corridor', by extending support in the form of providing arms.
The North Telangana Special Zonal Committee (NTSZC), Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and Andhra-Orissa Border (AOB), Maoists had a crucial meeting one and half months ago, at a strategically triangular point between Kunta of Chhattisgarh, Motu of Orissa and Chinturu of Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh, according to the document.
They had reportedly discussed the strategy to disturb all developmentactivities by the government, in order to strengthen the formation of the 'Red Corridor' across AP, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh forest areas.
"The Maoists had also decided to take the assistance of organisations like Simi and some fundamentalist groups, in the 'liberated zones', for which Simi would be provided help in the agency abutting areas of three districts—Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and Khammam, to build its base," a police officer said.
The Simi also reportedly established its base in a semi-urban colony under Gopalapatnam police station limits under
Visakhapatnam Police Commissionerate, according to sources.
