Berlin - About 150 supporters of Germany's far-right National Democratic Party demonstrated on Saturday in Berlin against the building of a Hindu temple.

A member of an extreme-right group, who had been subject to an arrest warrant, was seized during the neo-Nazi rally, according to a Berlin police spokesperson.

At the same time, about 500 people staged a protest against the NPD demonstration.

In total, eight people were arrested during the two rallies, for which 800 policemen were mobilised.

Construction work on the Hindu temple is scheduled to begin early next year, in the multi-ethnic district of Neukoelln in south Berlin.
