Ex-armyman nabbed in Delhi with classified military documents
New Delhi (PTI): An ex-armyman was nabbed in the Walled City area of the national capital with classified military documents before passing them to an ISI agent, police said on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off by intelligence agencies, the sleuths from the Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested Javed Ahmed from the Walled City area where he had come to hand over the secret documents to an ISI agent on Tuesday, a senior police officer said.
Ahmed (42), a resident of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, was carrying a suitcase which contained two files of incriminating documents relating to Indian armed forces, the officer said.
Ahmed, who joined the Indian army as sepoy in 1984 and retired in 2001, came in contact with one Salauddin in 2006 who introduced him to ISI agent Siddiqi, the officer said.
During interrogation, Ahmed revealed that he had in the past passed the secret documents on six occasions to Siddiqi and in return was rewarded with cash.
In January this year, Ahmed was asked by his handler to collect secret books from Army Training Centre in Roorke in Uttar Pradesh, the officer said, adding Ahmed was able to collect some sensitive informations from there.
"Siddiqi was schedule to meet Ahmed yesterday to get delivery of those documents," he said.
Further investigation in the case are on and police is trying to nab both Salauddin and Siddiqi, the officer said.
Ahmed, during his service period, was posted at different places, including Jammu and Kashmir and North-East, the officer said.
Last year many such ISI modules were busted, however, this was the first such case in 2008.
