Two pimps held, 4 girls rescued

CHENNAI: The Anti-Trafficking Cell, Crime Branch, CID, busted a prostitution racket and arrested two pimps and sent four girls involved in commercial sex activities to Government Vigilance Home, Mylapore, here on Thursday.
Based on a tip-off from G Jabaraj, director, Just Trust, an NGO, that one Poonga Venkatesan of Chitlapakkam, Chennai, was enticing young girls of other states and forcing them into commercial sex activities, the team attached to the cell conducted an investigation.
It got a clue that two girls had been transported from Andhra Pradesh to Chennai in a Maruti 800 car. Then it intercepted the car in Neelankarai and found two girls inside the vehicle.
Then the team arrested two pimps Mani alias Kumar of Sorlakunda, Tirupati, and Joseph of Munnar in Kerala.
The two girls told the team that two more girls of Andhra Pradesh, who were brought by the pimps, were staying in a lodge at VGP Golden Beach Resort, Chennai.
The team went there and found the two girls kept in a room in the resort. Poonga Venkatesan, the key accused, who runs the trafficking business for 15 years, is absconding in Andhra Pradesh.
