BJP moots adalat to solve church feud

KOCHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Miniority Morcha has volunteered to evolve a solution to the feud between the two factions of the Malankara Church with the help of an adalat acceptable to both factions.

A.N. Radhakrishnan, general secretary of the State BJP, and K.V. Sabu, president of the Minority Morcha, said at a press conference here on Thursday that the feud between the two factions of the Malankara Church had acquired the proportions of a social disaster.

Even court interventions had not yielded a permanent solution to the problem, they said.

They said the BJP Minority Morcha wished to intervene in the matter in an apolitical manner, taking into consideration the church dispute as a social problem.

They said the key to finding the solution was the formation of an adalat that would be chosen with the consent of both the factions of the Malanakara Church.

The help of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) and the Indian Christian Movement would also be sought, the BJP leaders said.

They said the Morcha had got in touch with the former Governor of Maharashtra P.C. Alexander; Prof. M. V. Pylee; the former judges of Kerala High Court K.T. Thomas, J. M. James and Hariharan Nair; and the former Additional Chief Secretary Babu Paul.
