Ex-priest accused of rapes



• Adelrick D’Cruz in a photo taken about 10 years ago.A FORMER Shepparton Catholic priest will appear in Shepparton Magistrates Court next month charged with rape and other offences.

Adelrick D’Cruz, 77, of Clayton South, did not appear at a file hearing yesterday due to ill health.

He has been charged with 10 counts of unlawful and indecent assault of a girl, 8, as well as three counts of common law rape.

The acts were alleged to have been committed at Flemington in Melbourne between January 1, 1969, and December 31, 1971, and in Yarrawonga between December 1, 1978, and January 31, 1979.

D’Cruz was an assistant priest in Benalla in 1984, and was also in Shepparton for three years in the late 1970s.

He was charged on April 26 and will appear in a committal mention hearing at Shepparton Magistrates Court on June 19.

Father D’Cruz was ordained on March 25, 1957, and spent the latter part of his career ministering in the Sandhurst diocese in northern Victoria.
