Radical Islamic preacher enroute to Jamaica

Islamic preacher Sheikh Abdullah al-Faisal

Islamic preacher Sheikh Abdullah al-Faisal, who influenced one of the July 7 bombers, is on his way to Jamaica.

Al-Faisal, who is of Jamaican origin, lost his appeal against deportation.

He is being deported from the UK.

Al-Faisal was jailed in 2003 for soliciting the murder of Jews and Hindus.

The British Home Secretary, John Reid, said London bomber Germaine Lindsay was "strongly influenced" by Al-Faisal.

In a statement, Mr. Reid said he was pleased that al-Faisal had been removed and excluded from the UK.

Al-Faisal's trial heard he spent years travelling the UK preaching racial hatred urging his audience to kill Jews, Hindus and westerners.

He was found guilty of three charges of soliciting the murder of Jews, Americans and Hindus and two charges of using threatening words to stir up racial hatred.

Last year, Mr. Reid told MPs that al-Faisal had influenced Jamaican-born Briton Lindsay, who was responsible for the blast at King's Cross that killed 27 people.

Taped recordings of al-Faisal's lectures, which Lindsay listened to, were sold at specialist Islamic bookshops.

The tapes formed the basis of the prosecution's case in the 2003 Old Bailey trial of the Muslim convert.

Meanwhile, Head of Operation Kingfish, Assistant Commissioner, Glenmore Hinds says the police are well aware of concerns stemming from the expected arrival of Al-Faisal.

ACP Hines says although Al-Faisal is returning to Jamaica a free man they will take his history into consideration.

Al-Faisal was born Trevor William Forrest in Point, St. James.

He attended Maldon Comprehensive High.

His parents were practicing Christians who worked with the Salvation Army.
