BJP asks Pawar to eat imported read wheat publicly for a day

New Delhi (PTI): The BJP on Friday asked Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to consume the imported red wheat for a day in public despite his statement in the Lok Sabha that he ate such type of wheat at home for a week.

The main Opposition party which has been targeting Pawar alleging huge scam in wheat import alleged the agriculture minister wants to "hide his sin" and so was "running away" from a CBI inquiry.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters that he "stands by" by his charges in the matter that wheat has been imported at exorbitant prices and the way the lower tender was rejected, showed irregularities.

Pawar earlier in the day rejected demand for a CBI probe, saying it was "not necessary" as circumstances forced the government to take the decision to import wheat as there was a gap of 40 lakh tonnes between the national requirement and the domestic procurement.
