AHMEDABAD: BJP in poll-bound Gujarat on Thursday tried to clothe a secular robe by asserting that the party was not against Muslims.
"We are not anti-Muslim," BJP spokesperson Vijay Rupani categorically stated on Thursday, reacting to a question on whether BJP was out to appease the minority community ahead of assembly polls. Rupani was addressing mediapersons at the end of two-day BJP executive meet on the outskirts of Gandhinagar. "We are not anti-Muslim. But we are pro-Hindu. We will definitely take up the cause of the Hindus," he stressed.
The state BJP also attempted to steer clear of controversy over the article lauding Jinnah published in the state’s official journal 'Gujarat'. "Views mentioned in the article are of an individual and hence the party and the government has got nothing to do with it," the spokesman said. However, he did not have any reply as to how the article was published in 'Gujarat'.
Rupani said that the executive meet has decided to ensure that there was presence of BJP workers at all 39,000 elections booths in the state. He said that the allocation of the booths and forming the committees and appointing poll managers for each booth would be completed by August 15. He also said that the BJP would also cover one crore houses as a part of the election campaign. Rath yatras have been planned to highlight the various schemes of the government which include the Van Bandhu Yatra in the tribal belt and the Dariya Khedut Yatra in the coastal belt. He said that the political resolution passed during the meet criticised the Congress and its leaders for going soft terrorists.
He also said that so far there were tainted ministers in UPA ministry but now the country would have tainted presidents thanks to the Congress. He said the second resolution was the economic resolution the main focus was to make Gujarat lead the economy of the country. He said that in the days to come Gujarat growth would decide the growth rate of the country.
