DOCTOR IN AND OUT: DMK won't ask for Anbumani Ramadoss' exit from the Centre.

Chennai/New Delhi: The DMK, which leads the Tamil Nadu government, has decided to end its alliance with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).

The DMK, after a meeting with its allies in Chennai on Tuesday, announced it found it impossible to work with the PMK because it was not acting against its leaders who have been criticising the state government.

The DMK had called the meeting to discuss PMK treasurer Guru’s alleged inflammatory speeches and murder threats to DMK leaders earlier this year.

PMK leaders have been critical of the state government’s functioning and have frequently spoken against their coalition partner.

DMK president and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has, however, said he would not ask for the ouster of the PMK from the Congress-led UPA Government. PMK founder S Ramadoss' son Anbumani Ramadoss is the Union Health Minister. Another PMK leader R Velu is the Minister of State for Railways.

The two parties have had an uneasy relationship and frequently squabbled in public. Political analysts say that the PMK could now be provoked to reach an understanding with the AIADMK, the main Opposition party in the state, before the General Elections in 2009.

A Ramadoss on Monday rejected DMK’s complaint against Guru and claimed the party was raking up a dead issue.
