அன்புமணி, அரசாங்க பிசிஜி தடுப்பு மருந்து நிறுவனத்தை மூடியதற்கு டைரக்டர் இலங்கேஸ்வரன் கடும் கண்டனம் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். அரசாங்க நிறுவனம் 13 ரூபாய்க்கு உற்பத்தி செய்யும் தடுப்பு மருந்தை விட்டுவிட்டு 17.50க்கு தனியார் நிறுவனம் விற்கும் தடுப்பு மருந்தை அரசாங்கம் வாங்க கட்டாயமென்ன என்று கேட்டுள்ளார்.

CHENNAI/DELHI: Pressure exerted by World Health Organisation led to the closure of BCG Vaccine Laboratory in Chennai. But its director N Elangeswaran is questioning why the quality of the vaccine produced by the profit-making unit was not tested before the licence was cancelled.

Union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss said the ministry stopped production of the vaccine at the laboratory after an ultimatum issued by WHO director-general Margaret Chan.

The ministry will now buy the vaccine at a higher price from Serum Institute of India, a Pune-based private manufacturer. BCG Laboratory was providing the vaccine at Rs 13 per vial of 10 doses. SII charges Rs 17.50 a vial.
