HUBLI: Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said on Sunday that a meeting between Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata was likely to take place in Bangalore in a week on the relocation of Nano car manufacturing plant.
He was addressing presspersons here after inspecting the proposed land identified for acquisition near Dharwad along with a team led by Managing Director of Tata Motors Ravikanth.
Earlier, the Chief Minister along with senior officials held talks with the team led by Mr. Ravi Kant here. This is Mr. Ravikanth’s second meeting with Mr. Yeddyurappa.
The Chief Minister, who was on a tour of Dharwad and Gadag districts on Saturday, chose to stay overnight here in the wake of Mr. Ravikanth’s visit.
The meeting lasted for around 30 minutes. The Tata Motors’ team included head of the Nano project Girish Wagh and general managers Kulkarni (Construction), Tapan Mukhyopadhya (Finance) and A.S. Puri (Legal). Mr. Nirani, Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Speaker of the legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, Dharwad North MP Pralhad Joshi, Principal Secretaries Umesh (Commerce and Industry), M.R. Srinivas Murthy (Finance), Executive Member of KIADB Sham Bhat and Special Deputy Commissioner Shivashankar attend the meeting.
Mr. Yeddyurappa told presspersons that he had apprised the officials of Tata Motors of the congenial industrial climate in Dharwad. “We are ready to meet their requirement of land, water and power. Since the company has its other units in Dharwad, it will be easier for it to relocate the small car manufacturing unit here and the Government is ready to extend necessary concessions,” he said.
The Chief Minister declined to reveal details regarding concessions or exemptions being offered to Tata Motors. He said that his Government was making all efforts to attract industrialists and entrepreneurs to the State. As had been announced, the Global Investors’ Meet would be held in Bangalore on January 15 and 16, he added.
A total of 970.14 acres of land, surrounding the 300 acres of land allotted to Tata Motors for its Vendors’ Park, has been identified for acquisition by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).
Mr. Nirani said that the team inspected the land adjacent to the Dharwad Growth Centre (Belur Industrial Estate) proposed for acquisition. “We also told them that the State Government is ready to help them in building residential townships for their employees,” he said.
Two five-star hotels and three three-star hotels would come up in Hubli and Dharwad soon as permission had been given to private players, he said.
‘Impressed’
Mr. Nirani said that the Principal Secretaries and other senior officials would brief Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao on the meeting with the Tata Motors’ team. On what was the response of the team after land inspection, Mr. Nirani said although they were non-committal, they seemed impressed.
