A Scarborough religious leader charged in a sexual assault investigation allegedly used a number of aliases, police say.
Mohammad Masroor, 48, imam of the Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society at 3334 Danforth Ave., was arrested Aug. 10 and is facing 13 charges in relation to alleged offences between Nov. 1, 2008 and July 28, 2011.
Police allege the accused possessed passports and travelled under assumed aliases.
The alias Junaid Salman was allegedly used in the early 1990s in Europe, including in Hungary, Austria and Italy.
The alias Abdur Rahim was possibly used during the 1980s in India, Qatar and Saudia Arabia.
The accused may also be known as Abdul Karim Abdul Aziz, police alleged.
Police believe Masroor lived and worked world-wide. He has been in Toronto since 2008.
During a news conference Aug. 17, police said their investigation revolves around five victims, both male and female.
The ages of the victims weren't disclosed.
