Balinese celebrated the Saraswati Day on Saturday, a day when the Hindus praise and thank the goddess of knowledge for bestowing the ability to read, write and understand nature upon humans.
Thousands of students all across the island participated in the celebration, wearing traditional Balinese costumes and prayed together at their schools in the morning.
Some of the students later joined a mass of prayers at the Agung Jagatnata Temple in Denpasar where they performed traditional musical instruments.
Hindus celebrate the Saraswati Day once in 210 days and give young coconut leafs as an offering to the gods in the event. In Bali, most schools and universities place Dewi Saraswati statue in front of the buildings as a symbol of knowledge and technology. (ewd)
