Wokha, 19 February, (Asiantribune.com): A mammoth BJP procession took out in the entire Wokha Town here on Monday with former DAN Minister and BJP Official Candidate of 38 Wokha A/C Dr TM Lotha leading it in an open vehicle. Soon after the nomination papers of all the five official Candidates of the 38 Wokha A/C---Dr TM Lotha (BJP), A Yentsao Odyuo (NPF), Khyothungo (RJD), Mhao Humtsoe (INC) and Dr Chumben (NCP) ---were accepted in the scrutiny by the District Returning Officer, Mikha Lomi in his office on Monday, Dr TM Lotha, the BJP Official Candidate in an open vehicle led an unprecedented mammoth BJP procession throughout the Wokha Town.

Early in the morning, thousands of ladies came to his house from various parts of his constituency with firewood which they said a sign of solidarity with the candidate.

Buoyed by the unprecedented surge of public support, Dr Lotha hoped that all the 4 BJP Candidates in the district (Wokha) would win and further described the “unprecedented support of public” to them was the true reflection of what they had done during their last five year rule in the State. “This is the outcome of what we have done for the welfare of the people in the State in the last five years,” he stated. Dr Lotha said the people of the State were still afresh in their mind what the BJP-led NDA Government did for the State. It was the former BJP-led NDA Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee who gave the unprecedented economic package amounting to Rs 1053 crore to Nagaland when he officially visited the State on October 29, 2003.

He also disclosed that as soon as the DAN came to power in the State on March 6, 2003, Vajpayee had given Rs 365 crore to the State to wipe out the accumulated deficit of the previous Congress regime.

He also highlighted the major works completed and already taken up with the Vajpayee’s economic packages viz Agriculture, Village Industries, Horticulture, Floriculture, Medical Plants, Bamboo Products and Bamboo Mission, Tourism and Transport, development of infrastructure of Nagaland University at Lumami and Kohima Campus, Tourism Circuit to link areas in Northern Nagaland, particularly Mon district, Regional Information Technology, Second Phase completion of Indira Gandhi Stadium, completion of Sainik School, up-gradation of District Hospitals, Rural Employment Generation Program, development of eco-friendly municipal waste treatment plants at Dimapur, Kohima and other towns, etc. Many of these in fact remained as White Elephant and it was only after Vajpayee started paying special attention for the overall development of the State, things got moving in right direction, he added.

Dr Lotha said BJP’s genuine concern for the solution of the protracted Naga political solution could not be questioned because it was Vajpayee who as Indian Prime Minister declared the “uniqueness of Naga identity,” when the latter visited the State on October 29, 2003. His seriousness on the issue could also be seen when he invited the collective leadership of the NSCN (IM) to India to have wider consultation with leaders of all political parties and leaders of Indian civil societies and Naga societies. “Had Vajpayee continued to remain in power, by now the major problem of the political issue would have been solved. Unfortunately, the BJP-led NDA lost power at the Center.”

With all these developments, the BJP Candidate from 38 Wokha A/C expressed confidence that the BJP would win more seats than the last time and would be forming the next DAN Government in the State.
