Saudi Court: Woman Wed At Age 10 Must Repay Bridal Gift To Get Divorce
The public court in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is demanding that a young Saudi woman who wants a divorce from her husband either go back to her husband or repay to him the mahr, or bridal gift, as a condition for granting the divorce.
The mahr was 100,000 Saudi riyals.
The young woman said that her father had wed her to a 67-year-old man when she was 10, and that throughout the years of the marriage she had refused to live with him.
